Position Summary:
Performs editorial functions related to the on-going development and creation of on-line databases and content, specifically in the audiovisula sphere.
Daily responsibilities include applying independent judgement to create, review and correct content related to contextual elements according to established standards and practice. In this role you will receive research film, television, documentary, and other audiovisual content and then write synopsis, plot descriptions, and taglines, annotate genre and keyword descriptors, and collect and document all sorts of information about the work.
Editor creates, edits and updates documentation relating to standards, practices and definitions for internal and external use. Exercises independent judgement to ensure data and content are of acceptable quality, surfacing issues for reivew as required.
Job Requirements:
- Be an excellent and fast writer
- Have encyclopedic knowledge of film and television and be able to articulate that knowledge in writing, and in particular be able to annotate films or shows you have already seen without having to review the video again
- Understand major and minor audiovisual genres, keywords, and descriptive labels and be able to quickly determine the appropriate keyword or label to use
- Understand how to write for various user interface size constraints (e.g., brief vs extended synopsis)
- Be a quick web researcher including having a good understanding of the carious locations to find film, television, disc, and video file information
- Understand how to write original content when referencing existing film and television information
- Understand the basics behind DVD, Blu-ray, and HD-DVD disc formats
- Have excellent basic computer and data entry skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.)
- Be knowledgeable about database operations and data access methods
- Be able to work independently, with little or no direct supervision, surfacing problems or issues for approval as necessary
- Must be detail oriented and able to establish, communicate, and follow agreed upon project priorities
Qualifications:
B.S., B.A., or equivalent experience in technical, library science or film major.
Pluses:
- Any practical database knowledge (Oracle, PLSQL, SQL Server, SQL, etc.)
- Previous work in the motion picture, television, and/or movie retail industries
- Fluency/Familiarity with languages other than English
