We are seeking a full-time research engineer to join Gracenote's Media Technology Lab. As part of the MTL, you will have the opportunity to architect, implement and analyze innovative algorithms to extract and manipulate metadata from audio visual content. As a cutting edge researcher, you will be able to work independently as well as in a team of highly motivated developers on novel ideas that will open up new dimensions in the content search and management space. You will also be expected to actively participate in the publication and presentation of scientific papers at appropriate technical conferences as well as contributing to building out Gracenote's patent portfolio.
At Gracenote, the MTL's focus resides in developing new technologies that automatically analyze audio visual signals to extract information that can be used to drive powerful identification, navigation and recommendation applications for some of the world's most successful PC application developers and consumer electronics companies. This unique opportunity also involves working with other top research teams around the globe.
The successful candidate is self-motivated and highly talented, with at least 5 years of hands-on experience and in-depth understanding of video signal processing and pattern recognition algorithms, excellent technical skills, expert knowledge on the manipulation of digital media file formats, very good communication skills, an ability to self-manage, a willingness to travel if needed, and a strong desire to work in the exciting field of digital media technology. Additional knowledge of content production and distribution processes is helpful but no requirement.
Responsibilities
The Video Research Engineer role focuses on algorithmic research and prototype development of video signal processing & analysis, production quality software components and tools, and enhancing Gracenote's product portfolio in this space of content-derived metadata services. This includes staying up-to-date in the scientific field, traveling to attend research conferences and trade shows, and the creation and submission of scientific papers, as well as supporting Gracenote's engineers and partners in integrating newly developed novel software components and technologies into products.
We require independent problem solving skills, and the ability to formulate and implement novel ideas and solutions.
We expect our Engineers to be strong partners and innovators in a team of highly skilled multimedia professionals.
Job Qualifications
- M.S. or better in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering with a strong video/image signal processing background.
- 5 or more years of experience in research and development of video technologies/applications.
- Proficient knowledge of Windows and/or Darwin/Linux platforms and tools (VC++, gcc, make).
- Excellent skills in Matlab or comparable digital signal processing/modeling languages.
- Expert level knowledge in C/C++ and debugging techniques.
- Experience in writing platform independent software.
- Creative mindset for generating, enhancing, and promoting innovative ideas for novel applications and technologies.
- Strong communication and technical writing skills. Ideally having published at least one scientific paper or contributed to at least one patent application.
- Experience with current signal classification and pattern recognition methods/ technologies.
Desirable Qualities
- Audio processing, multimedia signal analysis and feature extraction/data mining.
- Experience in developing embedded applications, possibly some assembly language skills.
- Background in semantic content analysis/synthesis
- Knowledgeable about database methodology and database systems, as well as fuzzy search algorithms in high dimensional vector spaces.
- Self-motivated; works with minimal supervision.
